Butyric acid (BA), butyrate esters and butyrate salts are used in polymers, food ingredients, animal feed, personal care ingredients and other high value end-use applications. BA is a critical feedstock in the production of Cellulose Acetate Butyrate (CAB), a biopolymer used in high impact plastics. CAB is used to produce a wide range of end products such as hard hats, safety glasses, safety shield, eyeglasses, tool handles, DVD's, CD's, signage and blister packaging. CAB is also used as a specialty additive in automotive and industrial coatings, fingernail polish, and in pharmaceutical time-release encapsulation.
