Green Biologics is the leading global player in renewable n-butanol. Our n-butanol is produced through fermentation of sugars from renewable feedstocks, resulting in a high purity renewable butanol with up to 85% lower carbon emissions than alternative petroleum-based sources. Since 2012, we have been producing renewable n-butanol through a collaboration in China utilising corn cobs and corn stover as a feedstock. In 2016, our first U.S. plant will come on line in Little Falls, Minnesota utilising corn as a feedstock.
n-Butanol is building block chemical in the $115 billion global paints, coatings, adhesives and inks market. It is a 4 carbon, straight chain alcohol used extensively as a solvent and as an intermediate in the production of monomers, polymeric emulsions, esters, and glycol ethers. It is also used in the production of amino resins used as curing agents in paints and coatings, and as an intermediate in the production of plasticizers and amines. It is a HAPS-compliant solvent with slow evaporation rates and excellent flow, levelling and gloss characteristics. n-Butanol is a particularly effective latent solvent for cellulosic lacquers and ambient-cured enamels. Our renewable n-butanol is readily biodegradable.
