Paints, coatings, adhesives and inks
The $115 billion global paints, coatings, adhesives and inks market is a uniquely diverse and competitive market driven by performance, value, sustainability and economics. Our renewable n-butanol and acetone are widely used solvents in paints, coatings, adhesives and inks. Derivatives of n-butanol are critical components of low/no VOC waterborne formulations as monomers, coalescing agents, emulsifiers, rheology agents, curing agents, and other high value additives.
Our renewable n-butanol can generate up to 85% less carbon than petroleum-based alternatives. Both renewable acetone and renewable n-butanol perform equal to or better than their petroleum-based alternatives. We’ve designed our processes to minimize waste and energy, and to improve product purity and performance in downstream product formulations.
We aim to produce renewable n-butanol and acetone in our first U.S. production facility in Little Falls, Minnesota by early 2016. Through collaborations with partners and customers, we aim to chemically synthesize our platform chemicals into high value downstream derivatives such as butyl acrylates, butyl acetate, butyl esters and butyl glycol ethers as well as amino resins, amines and plasticizers. Our Clostridium microbial platform provides a foundation for future C3 and C4 products.
