Laboratory Manager / Health & Safety Officer
GBL is recruiting a Laboratory Manager / Health & Safety Officer to join the team. The role involves:
– Maintaining the smooth-running of the laboratory by arranging for servicing and repair of laboratory equipment, and managing servicing contracts.
– Line management of the laboratory technician team.
– Procurement of all laboratory consumables and equipment, and accountability for the effectiveness of the company purchasing system.
– Working closely with laboratory staff as well as upper management to identify issues within the laboratory and agree budgets before undertaking research into the most effective solutions.
– Liaising with suppliers and contractors to obtain quotations, secure best pricing and make sure that maintenance work is carried out in a timely manner.
– Ensuring compliance with all local and government regulations regarding safe laboratory working practices, and responsibility for all company health and safety documentation as well as the weekly auditing system.
– Basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
– Facilities management and IT management tasks in collaboration with the Office Manager
The candidate should be educated to A-level or higher in a scientific discipline, and have practical experience of managing a scientific laboratory. You should have some experience of purchasing systems within a scientific company, and knowledge of health and safety documentation control (writing risk assessments etc.). You will be able to work well on your own and as part of a team. Good communication and IT skills are essential.
