Green Biologics Announces Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the University of Nottingham
Abingdon, Oxfordshire U.K. (March 9, 2012) – Green Biologics Limited (GBL), a UK-based industrial biotechnology company announces a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between GBL and an academic group in the BBSRC Sustainable Bioenergy Centre at the University of Nottingham, led by Professor Nigel Minton. This two year project is funded by the Technology Strategy Board and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), and supports a full time Research Associate at Green Biologics Ltd.
The aim of the project is to barcode GBL’s fermentation microbes with a unique DNA signature using “ACE” gene integration technology developed by the Minton group at the University of Nottingham. The barcode enables convenient and rapid identification of GBL’s proprietary strains on a commercial solvent plant, thus ensuring rapid differentiation from contaminants and improved quality control In addition, the unique barcodes will help identify and protect GBL’s proprietary microbes from unauthorised use.

The project output will help to differentiate our fermentation technology offering and strengthen our leadership position for biobutanol production”

This Partnership received financial support from the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships programme (KTP). KTP aims to help businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK Knowledge Base. KTP is funded by the Technology Strategy Board along with the other government funding organisations.
